Path of the Panther
Special Screening
Friday, September 18th 12:15pm - 2:30pm
Drawn in by the haunting specter of the Florida panther, a wildlife photographer, veterinarians, ranchers, conservationists, and indigenous people find themselves on the front lines of an accelerating battle between forces of renewal and destruction that have pushed the Everglades to the brink of ecological collapse. In a struggle resonating across the globe, the panther’s habitat has become an island. Its lush territory transformed into subdivisions. A paradise vanishing into thin air. Perched on the edge of extinction, the panther is an emblem of our once connected world. A vision of what could be again. Or else, a harbinger, of what could befall our planet, if the ‘Path of the Panther’ becomes a dead end.

Meet the Filmmaker
Eric Bendick is an EMMY-Award-winning director, writer, and producer whose films explore connectivity, conflict, and ingenuity at the intersection of human and wild spaces. He’s led numerous storytelling expeditions into the Arctic, the Everglades, the Grand Canyon, the Caribbean, and the Great Bear Wilderness alongside countless adventures throughout the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Over the last two decades, his productions have taken him into the heart of many of the last untamed landscapes on Earth as well as to the front lines of habitat destruction, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem collapse. Working at the nexus of these two worlds, his groundbreaking films for National Geographic, Disney+, PBS, Smithsonian, and Discovery have garnered awards and accolades from major film festivals, academies, and cinematic arts institutions around the world. Most recently, Eric's feature documentary, 'Path of the Panther,' won the 2024 National EMMY Award for 'Outstanding Nature Documentary' from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He is a fellow of the Redford Center, an envoy for the Department of State's American Film Showcase, as well as an alumnus of Brown University and Montana State University.
Over the course of these many years, our team evolved alongside “Path of the Panther,” as storytellers, as filmmakers, as humans. The film has found its path and sparked a movement – a more impactful one than we ever could have imagined. Because this experience reveals an idea wilder than the Everglades – a wisdom older than North America. This story is inspiring optimism for reclaiming a vision of what could be again. A connected planet. A home in balance. For all life on Earth. This ‘impossible idea’ won’t just save panthers one day – it might just save us too.
